This article was previously published under Q238839

SYMPTOMS

As stated in the documentation, Content Replication System (CRS) "Internet Retrieval" Projects allow you to retrieve contents from a server using Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) or File Transfer Protocol (FTP).

An Internet Retrieval project cannot be used to retrieve contents from a secure Web server using HTTP:
  • You cannot specify an HTTP URL as the source URL of the project.
  • You cannot use CRS to follow and retrieve any HTTP URL link.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Site Server 3.0. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

MORE INFORMATION

With this fix, you can now download content from a secure Web server:
  • An HTTP URL can be used as the source URL of the project.
  • CRS can now follow and retrieve HTTP links.
NOTE:The following Internet Retrieval project limitations are still valid:
  • CRS will only pull tags with href= and img src=.
  • Support for frames and scripts is not implemented.
  • CRS Pull only supports HTTP 1.0.
