SYMPTOMS

When you install an alternate print driver for a specific platform, the printer setup may prompt you for the location of an .inf file.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the .inf file for the platform you select is not found by the printer setup process.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, click the directory where the .inf file is located.

MORE INFORMATION

When you install an alternate print driver, the printer setup process tries to locate and install the platform driver. Windows 98, Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 drivers are included on the Windows 2000 Server CD-ROM only. You can find the drivers in the \Printers\Win9x folder.

If you select Windows 95/98 in the alternate printer driver user interface (UI), the \Printers\Win9x path is appended to the SourcePath value in the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Setup
