- Microsoft Windows Media Services 4.0
This article was previously published under Q238231 This article discusses a Beta release of a Microsoft product. The information in this article is provided as-is and is subject to change without notice.
No formal product support is available from Microsoft for this Beta product. For information about how to obtain support for a Beta release, see the documentation that is included with the Beta product files, or check the Web location from which you downloaded the release. SYMPTOMS
After a Windows Media Player client finishes playing a file that was generated by archiving a multicast station, the player displays a status of "Waiting" instead of "Stopped."
This behavior is consistent whether the file is being played locally, through unicast, or multicast.
CAUSE
The station service can save an archived version of the stream it receives from an encoder or another server. Because this stream is treated as a live stream, the archived .asf file lacks the header information that other .asf creation tools normally put in the file.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, open the archived content in the ASF Indexer and allow it to index the file. You can also use the command line utility Asfchop.exe to index the file.
