Taskbar Is Accessible Before You Type Screen Saver Password (237956)

SYMPTOMS

When you take your computer out of the APM suspend mode and you have enabled a screen saver password, the Windows taskbar may come to the foreground. You can gain access to any programs that are running and start new programs using the Start menu even though you cannot see them.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, you can use either of the workarounds in the following list:
  • Click to clear the Always OnTop check box on the Taskbar Properties sheet.
  • Use the Channel Screen Saver included with Internet Explorer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows 98.
