BUG: SQL Server 6.5 SP5 Setup Fails if Setup Path Has a DBCS Character (237707)

SYMPTOMS

When running the SQL Server 6.5 Service Pack 5 Setup.exe from a directory that contains a double-byte character set (DBCS) character in the directory name, the following error occurs during the installation of Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC):
Command line option syntax error. Type Command /? for help

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, remove any DBCS character from the name of the directory that contains the SQL Server 6.5 Service Pack 5 Setup.exe file and run the service pack setup program again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 6.5 Service Pack 5.
