SYMPTOMS

After you install the Windows Media Tools and then upgrade from Microsoft PowerPoint 97 to PowerPoint 2000, duplicate menu entries for Publish to ASF appear.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, do the following:

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
  2. Locate the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\8.0\PowerPoint\Addins\ASF

  3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the following registry keys:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\8.0\PowerPoint\Addins\Publish To ASF<BR/> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\8.0\PowerPoint\DLL Addins\ASF <BR/> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\8.0\PowerPoint\DLL Addins\Publish To A

  5. Quit Registry Editor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows Media Services version 4.0.
