You cannot open backed up personal folders (.pst) file in Outlook 2000 (237503)

SYMPTOMS

After you back up a Personal Folders (PST) file with the Microsoft Outlook Personal Folders Backup utility, you may not be able to reopen the file using the utility.

RESOLUTION

In Outlook, on the File menu, click Open to open the file.

Note You may be able to resolve this problem by installing the latest Microsoft Outlook 2002 updates and by installing the latest version of the Outlook Personal Folders Backup utility. To obtain these updates, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

To Backup a PST File

After installing the Personal Folders Backup utility:
  1. On the File menu, click Backup.
  2. Click Options.
  3. Click to select the .pst file you want to backup and click OK. The .pst file will be saved at the location displayed in the Backup Options dialog box.

To Open the File

  1. On the File menu, point to Open , and click Personal Folders File (.pst).
  2. Click to select the .pst file, and click OK. The .pst file will be added to your Folders list.
