Windows 98 Should Not Be Installed Over Windows 98 Second Edition (237491)

When you try to install the released version of Windows 98 on to a computer running Windows 98 Second Edition from within Windows, you receive one of the following error messages:
Autorun Is Enabled on Your Computer
This CD-Rom is from an older version of Windows than the one you are presently using.
Setup functionality from this disk will be disabled.
Autorun Is Disabled and You Double-Click the Windows 98 Setup.exe File
Setup has detected that you are running a version of Windows that already includes the updated files or enhancements you are attempting to install.

If you then click Details, Windows Help displays a topic that
states you are trying to install an older version of Windows and directs you to Help to return to the previous version of Windows (if possible) by using the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs to prevent you from unintentionally installing an older version of Windows 98 when you are already running a newer version, Windows 98 Second Edition.
RESOLUTIONWARNING: The following procedure is not recommended as it may result in system instability. This can occur when the files for the operating system are replaced, but the registry entries placed by Windows 98 Second Edition are not removed or overwritten.
To work around this behavior, you can install the released version of Windows 98 on to a computer running Windows 98 Second Edition by starting your computer to a command prompt, and then running Setup.exe. This can work because there is no version checking in this mode.
