The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q237442

SYMPTOMS

During Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Setup, you may receive the following error message:
Setup was unable to find a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server ADC with which to associate the Setup synchronization Connection Agreement object. Please ensure there is an Active Directory Connector installed in your Windows 2000 Forest before attempting to join an Existing 5.5 Organization.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Exchange 2000 Setup requires an Exchange 2000 version of the Active Directory Connector (ADC) to be installed in its domain.

Note There is a Windows 2000 version of the ADC together with an Exchange 2000 version.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, upgrade the Windows 2000 ADC to the Exchange 2000 version. To do this, run the Setup.exe program from the ADC\I386 folder on the Exchange 2000 Server CD or from an Exchange 2000 Server service pack CD, and then select the Re-install option. Upgrade the ADC to the version that corresponds to the Exchange 2000 service pack level that you are running.
