Using WebAdmin Results in Access Denied (237418)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the HTML Administration pages for Microsoft Site Server Search or Personalization and Membership (P&M), you may receive one of the following error messages:
Microsoft Internet Explorer
Access is Denied
Microsoft Internet Explorer
Permission Denied
Note: The above error messages may be followed by a page that contains the following error:
Error: Access is Denied

CAUSE

You are accessing the pages anonymously. The HTML Administrator requires administrative access for some of its functions.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, and point to Microsoft Site Server.
  2. Point to Administration and click Site Server Service Admin (MMC).
  3. Double-click to expand the Internet Information Server object.
  4. Double-click to expand your server object.
  5. Double-click to expand the Default Web Site.
  6. Double-click to expand the Site Server virtual directory.
  7. Right-click the Admin virtual directory and click Properties.
  8. Click the Directory Security tab.

    Note: This will be the Membership Authentication tab if your Default Web Site is mapped to a Membership Authentication instance.
  9. Click the Edit button for Anonymous Access and Authentication Control.
  10. Click to deselect Allow Anonymous Access.
  11. Click OK to return to the Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
