This article was previously published under Q237256 SYMPTOMS
Attempting to add a named property to a Microsoft Exchange Server folder located in the private Information Store returns the following error message:
MAPI_E_NO_SUPPORT (80040102)
CAUSE
Exchange Server Information Store does not support named properties on folders.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
MORE INFORMATION
Microsoft Exchange Server supports only predefined MAPI properties on folders. You cannot add or define custom named properties on Microsoft Exchange Server folders.
Named folder properties are supported by the Personal Store (PST). Other servers may support named properties on folders.
A workaround is to make a hidden message in the folder and then set the named properties on the hidden message.
