SideWinder: Cannot Control Pointer When You Play "Need For Speed II" (237244)

SYMPTOMS

When you play the Electronic Arts game, "Need For Speed II," you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
  • The pointer may scroll continuously through the menu items.
  • You may be unable to control the pointer.
  • You may be unable to select items in the game.
  • You may be unable to quit the game.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the following conditions are true:
  • The Microsoft SideWinder Precision Racing Wheel is connected to your computer.
  • The Microsoft SideWinder Game Controller software is not installed on your computer

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
  1. Quit all programs that are running on your computer except Explorer and Systray (which are components of Windows). To do this:
    1. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE.
    2. In the Close Program dialog box, click any program except Explorer or Systray, and then click End Task. If you receive a message stating that the program has stopped responding, click End Task again.
    3. Repeat steps A and B to quit all running programs except Explorer and Systray.
  2. Insert the SideWinder Game Controller software installation CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

    NOTE: The SideWinder Game Controller software installation CD-ROM is located inside the SideWinder Precision Racing Wheel "Getting Started" booklet.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the SideWinder Game Controller software.
  4. If you are prompted to restart the computer, do so.

MORE INFORMATION

When you finish installing the SideWinder Game Controller software, you can use the SideWinder Precision Racing Wheel pedals to scroll through the menu items in Need For Speed II. The right pedal scrolls up the menu, and the left pedal scrolls down the menu.

NOTE: You can also use your pointing device to select menu items.
