No HTML Is Displayed When You Open My Computer (235930)

SYMPTOMS
When you open My Computer, the folder is not displayed using HTML. Other Web View folders may work correctly. The mycomp.htt file is not damaged and is in the correct location.
CAUSE
The registry entry for My Computer Web View is damaged.
RESOLUTIONWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Use Registry Editor to edit the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Clsid\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B3
0309D}\shellex\ExtShellFolderViews\{5984FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}
- Remove the all the values from this registry key.
- Add the following values and value data:
Value Name=PersistMoniker
Data Type=REG_EXPAND_SZ
String=file://%systemroot%\web\mycomp.htt
NOTE: do not substitute the actual name of the system folder for %systemroot%, type the string exactly as indicated.
- Remove Internet Explorer 5.
- Remove the Desktop Update.
- Reinstall the Desktop Update.
- Reinstall Internet Explorer 5.
