Attachments are missing when a message is received in Outlook 2000 (235870)

This article was previously published under Q235870 SYMPTOMS When you use Microsoft Outlook to send a message that includes an
attachment, the message may be received without the attached item. If you view
the message in the Sent Items folder, the attachment is not visible.
CAUSE The attachment is removed when you send the message in
plain text format and you use Microsoft Word 97 as your e-mail editor.
RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000
Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a). To obtain SR-1/SR-1a, click the

To temporarily workaround this problem, do one of
the following:
- Upgrade to Microsoft Word 2000.
- Do not use Word as your e-mail editor.
- Use a different mail format.
NOTE: If you use Outlook Rich Text Format (RTF) as your e-mail format,
attachments are also removed if your mail server does not support RTF.
To disable using Word as your e-mail editor:
- On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Mail Format tab.
- On the Mail Format tab, click to clear the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail
messages check box.
To use a different mail format:
- On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Mail Format tab.
- On the Mail Format tab, change "Send in this message format" to Plain Text or
HTML.
This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.
