The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition
This article was previously published under Q235596 SYMPTOMS
When you change the data that a formula refers to, the formula is not updated correctly. If you press COMMAND+= to recalculate the workbook, it does not correct the problem. This problem occurs even when the calculation method is set to automatic.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
- A formula refers to another cell in the same row.
-and- - You copied the formula from another cell by using any of the following methods:
- Copy and Paste commands
- Dragging the fill handle
- The Fill-Down command
WORKAROUND
To correct this problem in your formula, double-click the cell that contains the formula, and then press RETURN. Or, click the cell, press COMMAND+U, and then press RETURN. This forces Excel to recalculate the formula. Excel continues to update any subsequent changes to dependent cells correctly.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.
