The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q235577

SUMMARY

When you first install Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, the Local Security Authentication Server (Lsass.exe) process consumes 95 to 100 percent of processor usage.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior is to be expected.

The Lsass.exe process receives authentication requests from Winlogon and calls the appropriate authentication package to perform account verification and validation. When you install Exchange 2000 Server, with each modification made to the Windows 2000 Active Directory Schema, a call is made to the Lsass.exe process to verify that the Exchange Service Account has the correct permissions necessary to modify the Active Directory Schema.
