Homepub 99 Err Msg: Mcps.dll Was Unable to Register Itself in the System Registry (235477)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Graphics Studio Greetings 99 or Microsoft Graphics Studio Home Publishing 99, you may receive the following error message:
Mcps.dll was unable to register itself in the system registry.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Mcps.dll file is damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, rename the Mcps.dll file, and then reinstall Greetings 99 or Home Publishing 99. To do this:

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type mcps.dll.
  3. In the Look in box, click My Computer.
  4. Click to select the Include Subfolders check box.
  5. Click Find Now.
  6. In the list of found files, right-click the Mcps.dll file, and then click Rename.
  7. Type mcps.old, and then press ENTER.

    NOTE: If you find more than one copy of the Mcps.dll file in the list of found files, repeat steps 6-7 for each copy.
  8. Close the Find: Files Named Mcps.dll window.
  9. Reinstall Greetings 99 or Home Publishing 99.
