OFF2000: Windows Resources Not Completely Restored After Leaving Program (235403)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2000
  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q235403

SYMPTOMS

After you close one of the products listed above, Windows system resources may remain slightly lower than their previous amount.

CAUSE

Resources remain lower because the application loads some shared resources when it is started and does not completely unload them when it is closed. This is done so that the application loads much faster the second (and later) times.

MORE INFORMATION

In Microsoft Windows 98, you can use Microsoft System Information (Msinfo32.exe) to monitor changes to system resources. To start Microsoft System Information, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Information.
