This article was previously published under Q235349

SYMPTOMS

When you create a Multicast Station with the Windows Media Administrator program version 4.0, and add it to a computer running Windows NT Server NetShow Services version 3.0 or you have upgraded the server from version 3.0 to 4.0, you cannot start the Multicast Station's program with the sample content as your stream source.

CAUSE

The stream's formats contain the Sample.asf format that is included in the Windows Media Administrator version 4.0, rather than the original stream information included in NetShow Administrator version 3.0.

WORKAROUND

When you add the sample .asf content to a computer running Windows NT Server NetShow Services 3.0, use the NetShow Administrator version 3.0 to create the Multicast Station.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows Media Services version 4.0.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem only occurs with the sample .asf content that comes with Windows NT Server NetShow Services version 3.0.
