  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition

This article was previously published under Q234999

SYMPTOMS

When you use the X of Y page numbering format, with X representing the page number and Y the total number of pages in the document, the total number of pages value may not print correctly. Instead, the document is numbered similar to the following:

and so on.

NOTE: You do not see the problem on screen or in print preview.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:

Method 1

  1. Quit Word.
  2. Locate the Word Settings (8) file in the System Folder:Preferences folder.
  3. Drag the Word Settings (8) file to the Trash.
  4. Start Word.
Word 98 will generate a new Word Settings (8) file, and the problem should no longer be present.

Method 2

When you print your file, use the Print command (on the File menu) instead of the Print button on the Standard toolbar.
