SUMMARY

Microsoft has released NetMeeting version 3.01 for Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.

NetMeeting 3.01 (build 4.4.3385) is an update to the version of NetMeeting 3.0 (build 4.4.3345) included with Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition.

NetMeeting 3.01 includes the following new features and improvements:

Ease of Use

  • Easier user interface. NetMeeting 3 now has a task-based user interface that adapts to users' needs and is smaller and more practical than ever before.
  • Easier to find another user. The new Internet Directory is now Web-based and provides users a faster experience.
  • Easier to use. Shared programs or folders are now all displayed within one frame so that users can resize or even minimize the shared programs on the desktop.

Improved Performance and Quality

  • NetMeeting 3.0 is faster. The bandwidth required for program sharing has been reduced by almost half.
  • High-end performance improvements. Users can take advantage of faster multimedia computers and high-speed networks to achieve up to 30 frames per second video performance (TV quality).
  • Program sharing quality improvements. NetMeeting 3 now supports 24-bit True Color, which enables Whiteboard graphics and shared programs to be shared accurately between users.

Flexible Interface

  • "One touch" access. The NetMeeting 3 user interface can now be embedded in a Web page using an ActiveX control.
  • Attended and unattended desktop sharing. Share the entire desktop; Remote Desktop Sharing enables users to conduct an "unattended" conference and gain access to data.

Broader Standards Support

  • Gatekeeper support: NetMeeting 3 offers H.323 version 2 Gatekeeper support.
  • Quality of Service support: NetMeeting 3 supports Quality of Service (QoS).
  • T.126 Whiteboard.

Enhanced Security

Data conference security. With NetMeeting 3, users can conduct secure data conferences with industry-standard authentication and encryption.
