Task Scheduler Service Starts Automatically After Upgrade (234632)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based computer to Windows 2000, the Task Scheduler service starts automatically, and this occurs even if you previously disabled this feature.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Windows 2000 automatically starts Task Scheduler because some system services now require the Task Scheduler service.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, disable or delete any tasks that you do not want to be started by Task Scheduler:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Scheduled Tasks.
  2. Right-click the task you want to disable, and then click Properties.
  3. On the Task tab, click to clear the Enabled (scheduled task runs at specified time) check box, and then click OK.
  4. Repeat this process to delete any other tasks.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
