You cannot perform an unattended installation of mass storage drivers when you run the Setup program from the Windows CD to install Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000 (234536)

SYMPTOMS

You try to automate the installation of mass storage drivers on a computer while you are using a Windows CD to install Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Windows XP, or Microsoft Windows 2000. To do this, you perform the following actions:
  • You modify the OEMBootFiles and MassStorageDrivers sections of the Winnt.sif file.
  • You start the computer by using the Windows CD, and then you run the Setup program from the Windows CD.
However, the mass storage drivers that you specify in the Winnt.sif file are not installed. You cannot perform an unattended installation of mass storage drivers.

CAUSE

You cannot automate the installation of mass storage drivers when you start the computer from the Windows CD and then run the Setup program to install Windows from the Windows CD.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:
  • When you are prompted by the Setup program, press F6 to manually install the mass storage drivers that you want.
  • Perform a network installation of Windows. Network installations of Windows support unattended installations of mass storage drivers. Note Editing the Txtsetup.sif file to add mass storage drivers is not supported.
