PRB: Repeatedly Starting and Shutting Down System Application Generates an Error Message (234231)

SYMPTOMS

When you start and shut down the System Application in quick succession by using the COM+ Explorer, one of the following error messages may be generated:
Catalog Error - You do not have permission to perform the requested action. If security is enabled on the System application of the target computer make sure you are included in the appropriate roles.

Catalog Error - An error occurred while processing the last operation. Error code 80080008 - Object server is stopping when OLE service contacts it. The event log may contain additional troubleshooting information.

Catalog Error - An error occurred while processing the last operation. Error code 80010105 - The server threw an exception. The event log may contain additional troubleshooting information.

CAUSE

This error message occurs because you are shutting down the System Application while it is in the process of starting up.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Open Component Services Explorer. On the Start menu, point to Programs, Administrative Tools, and then click Component Services.
  2. Under My Computer, right-click System Application, and then start and shut down the application in quick succession.
