SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start Microsoft Word, you may receive one or more of the following error messages:
Winword -- An error has occurred in your program. To keep working anyway, click Ignore and save your work to a new file. To quit this program, click Close. You will lose information you entered since your last save.
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
Winword caused a general protection fault in module ATIR3.DRV at 0028:00002a39

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you use multiple monitors, and one or more of the monitors is connected to an ATI 3D Rage Pro video adapter. The issue occurs if your ATI 3D Rage Pro video adapter drivers are damaged or you are using an older version of the ATI 3D Rage Pro video adapter drivers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, contact ATI Technical Support to obtain the most current 3D Rage Pro video adapter drivers.
