XADM: Exchange 2000 Server Information Store Uses Windows 2000 ACLs (233531)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
This article was previously published under Q233531 SUMMARY
The Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server information store uses Microsoft Windows 2000 Access Control Lists (ACLs). Windows 2000 ACLs are used to decide who can access a mailbox, send mail on behalf of another, and so on.
NOTE: Earlier versions of Microsoft Exchange Server used their own ACLs.
MORE INFORMATION
The Exchange Server model (used in earlier versions) only supports Grant rights not Deny rights. The Windows 2000 model supports both (a Grant right grants a particular right to a user; a Deny right denies a particular right to a user). Deny rights are useful in that they provide the ability to negate rights. For example, at the folder level, you may be given rights to edit all items in a folder, but at the item level, there may be one or more items that you do not have rights to edit.
