Setup Hangs During Hardware Detection on HP Computer (233086)

SYMPTOMS

When you are installing Windows 98 Second Edition, Setup may stop responding (hang) during the hardware detection portion of Setup.

CAUSE

This issue can occur on some Hewlett-Packard (HP) computers that support the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) specification.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact Hewlett-Packard or download the latest BIOS update for your computer model from the following Hewlett-Packard Web site: NOTE: To complete Setup before upgrading the BIOS to the latest version, you can disable the USB Root Hub and USB Host Controller in Device Manager. Setup should finish, but Universal Serial Bus (USB) support will be disabled.
