CardBus Device Not Enumerated with TI 14xx or 44xx CardBus Controllers (233017)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
This article was previously published under Q233017 SYMPTOMS
CardBus cards in computers with certain Texas Instruments (TI) CardBus controllers may not be enumerated, or may be disabled on power-up or when you resume the computer from Suspend mode.
This issue affects computers with the following TI CardBus controllers:
- PCI1410
- PCI1420
- PCI1450
- PCI4450
CAUSE
These controllers require up to 32 milliseconds during the transition from
the D3 power state to the D0 power state before the CardBus "Socket Present" register reports an accurate device status. The Windows 98 PCI virtual device (Pci.vxd) expects PCI devices (and, by extension, the CardBus devices attached) to be ready and correctly reporting their status within 10 milliseconds of transitioning from D3 to D0.

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem if a CardBus device is not enumerated after power-up or when you resume the computer from Suspend mode, use any of the following methods:
- Eject, and then reinsert the CardBus card.
- In Control Panel, double-click the System icon, click the Device Manager tab, and then click Refresh.
If these methods do not cause the CardBus card to be re-enumerated, verify that you have the correct drivers installed for the CardBus controller in your computer. Contact your computer manufacturer if necessary for help with installing these drivers.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
