SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Windows 98 Second Edition, you may receive the following error message:
Setup encountered a problem while checking the integrity of your registry.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if your Windows registry is damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow the instructions on your screen to repair the registry at an MS-DOS prompt. After you repair the registry, run Windows 98 Second Edition Setup again. NOTE: If you continue to run Setup without repairing the registry, Windows may be unable to start.
