SYMPTOMS

When you try to play the F22 Air Dominance Fighter game, you may receive the following error message and your computer may stop responding (hang):
Cannot initialize the sound device, because it is already in use by another program.
If you then press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to try to quit F22 Air Dominance Fighter, you may receive the following error messages:
  • MMTASK caused a general protection fault in module MMSYSTEM.DLL at 0002:00000391.
    F22 caused a general protection fault in module MIDIMAP.DRV at 0005:0000054b.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if your computer contains a Creative Labs SoundBlaster AWE 64 Gold sound card, and you have selected the WaveSynth WG device for Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) sound.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact Creative Labs to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue.

To try to work around this issue:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double click Multimedia, click the Midi tab, and then select a MIDI device other than WaveSynth WG from the Single instrument list. Note that you may not have other devices in the Single instrument list.
