When you run MSN, The Microsoft Network Internet Access Setup, you are instructed to install a modem before continuing. This article discusses how to configure MSN for a Local Area Network (LAN) connection to the Internet without first installing a modem. Note that the steps in this article assume you have a working LAN connection to the Internet.

To configure MSN for LAN access:
  1. Double-click Setup MSN Internet Access on the desktop.
  2. When you receive the "We will need to install a modem before continuing" prompt, click Next.
  3. When the Install New Modem dialog box appears, click Cancel.
  4. At the "To set up MSN using your Local Area Network, click LAN" prompt, click LAN.
  5. If you already have a LAN connection, the LAN connection is tested, and if you can successfully connect to the MSN site through your LAN, the MSN Welcome screen appears.
  6. On the MSN Welcome screen, enter your user name and password account information, and then click Next.
  7. When you are prompted to select a state and dial-in primary and secondary phone number, click Cancel, and then click Next.
