The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q231809 SUMMARY
You cannot use the Users and Passwords tool in Control Panel to set the password for the currently logged-on user, or for any domain user.
To change the password for the currently logged-on user, use the Windows Security dialog box. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, and then click Change Password.
To change the password for domain accounts that are not currently logged
on, use the Active Directory Users and Computers tool from the Windows 2000 Server CD-ROM.
MORE INFORMATION
To change passwords, the currently logged-on user must type the "secure attention sequence" (or SAS). This is the CTRL+ALT+DELETE key combination. Only the operating system can respond to the SAS. This helps protect against Trojan horse programs collecting passwords by impersonating the change password interface.
