The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows 95
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
This article was previously published under Q231768 SYMPTOMS
If you are located in France and you attempt to dial a number in one of the French overseas territories, an incorrect number may be dialed and you may not be able to connect. The territories affected include:
- Guadeloupe
- Guyana
- Martinique
- Mayotte Island
- Reunion Island
- St. Pierre and Miquelon
CAUSE
These territories are part of the French telecommunications system. When you are dialing from France, they are treated as part of the French domestic telephone system, instead of being treated as foreign countries.
If you configure the Country or Region code to one of the above countries and your dialing (telephony) location is set to France, the call is dialed as an international call. Calls to these territories should be treated as domestic long-distance calls when dialed from France.
RESOLUTION
When you configure a dial-up connection originating in France to a phone number in one of the French overseas "Departments" (listed below), select "France" (country code 33) as the Country or Region code for the destination number, instead of the actual territory name.
French overseas territories that are treated as "Departments" (included as part of the French telephone system) include: |
Guadeloupe | 590 | Guyana | 594 | Martinique | 596 | Mayotte Island | 269 | Reunion Island | 262 | St. Pierre and Miquelon | 508 |
French overseas territories that are treated as "Territories" (not as part of the French telephone system) include: |
French Polynesia | 689 | New Caledonia | 687 | Wallis and Futuna Islands | 681 |
MORE INFORMATION
When you dial a number in any of these territories from a country other than France, the Country or Region code should be set to the actual country name, not "France."
