MapPoint 2000: Graphics in Legend Appear Jagged When You Print Map (231517)

SYMPTOMS

When you print a map from Microsoft MapPoint 2000, the graphics in the legend on the printed map may appear coarse or jagged.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet 4Si is your default printer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Install and Use the HP LaserJet 4Si MX Printer Driver

To do this:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
  2. Double-click Add Printer, and then click Next.
  3. Click Local printer, and then click Next.
  4. In the Manufacturers box, click HP.
  5. In the Printers box, click HP LaserJet 4Si MX, and then click Next.
  6. In the Available ports box, click the port your printer is connected to, and then click Next.
  7. Under Do you want your Windows-based programs to use this printer as the default printer, click No, and then click Next.
  8. When you are prompted to print a test page, click Yes (recommended), and then click Finish.
  9. When the test page is finished printing, click Yes.
  10. Close the Printers window.
  11. Use the HP LaserJet MX printer driver to print from MapPoint 2000. To do this:

    1. On the File menu, click Print.
    2. In the Name box, click HP LaserJet MX, and then click OK.

Disable Dithering on the HP LaserJet 4Si Printer

To do this:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
  2. Right-click the HP LaserJet 4Si printer, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Graphics tab.
  4. Under Dithering, click None.
  5. Click OK, and then close the Printers window.
