The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
This article was previously published under Q231410 SYMPTOMS
When you use the Remote Installation service (RIS) to install clients, or if you run out of disk space on the RIS volume, you may receive the following error message:
The server Servername cannot create a temporary unattended Setup Answer File. Contact your administrator.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur for any of the following reasons:
- The Tmp folder has been deleted from the Remoteinstall folder on the volume containing your installation images.
- Permissions for the Tmp folder are set incorrectly.
RESOLUTION
Verify the following items:
- Check the volume that contains the installation images to ensure the Tmp folder exists. If it is missing, you can re-create the folder manually, stop and start the Binlsvc (NetPC Boot Service Manager) service, or restart the server.
- Check the security on the Tmp folder. The default security should work, but if it has been modified, verify that the Domain Administrators group has at at least Read, Write, Read-Execute, List, and Modify permissions.
