SYMPTOMS

If you try to use your Handheld PC (H/PC) running Microsoft Windows CE to receive e-mail on MSN, The Microsoft Network, you are unable to do so.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the MSN e-mail servers require secure authentication to encrypt messages and Windows CE includes an e-mail client that does not use secure authentication.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, you can configure a Hot Mail account to send and receive messages from an MSN e-mail account using Pocket Internet Explorer:
  1. If you already have a Hotmail account, go to http://www.hotmail.com, log into your Hotmail account, and then skip to step 2. If you do not have a Hotmail account, go to http://www.hotmail.com, click "Sign up here" to create a free e-mail account, follow the instructions on the screen to finish creating your account, and then log into your account.
  2. Click the Options link on the left side of the Hotmail Web page, and then click POP Mail under Mail Handling.

Note If you want to be able to retrieve your e-mail from other clients as well as Hotmail, click to clear the Leave messages on POP server check box.
  3. Type the appropriate information for your MSN account or accounts, and then follow the instructions on the screen to finish.
