This article describes how to configure the Microsoft Cordless Phone System to use distinctive ringing. You can use distinctive ringing with the Microsoft Cordless Phone System to forward fax calls to your fax machine automatically.

NOTE: You must subscribe to a distinctive ringing service from your telephone company to use this feature.

To configure the Cordless Phone System to forward fax calls to your fax machine, follow these steps:

  1. Configure your fax machine or fax program to answer calls automatically, and to wait for one or two rings more than Microsoft Call Manager waits to answer a normal call.

    For information about how to configure your fax machine or fax program, please see the documentation for your fax machine or fax program.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Modems.
  4. Click Microsoft Voice Only Software Modem, and then click Properties.
  5. On the Distinctive Ring tab, click to select the This phone line has Distinctive Ring services check box, and then click the appropriate type of call for each ring pattern provided by your distinctive ringing service.
