SYMPTOMS

When you view the setup properties in Step 16 (Modify Setup Properties) of the Custom Installation Wizard (CIW), the OutlookConfiguration property has changed from the value to which it was previously set.

CAUSE

The OutlookConfiguration property in Step 16 of the CIW will automatically reset to the value specified in Step 14 (Customize Outlook Installation Options) of the CIW.

For example, if you set the OutlookConfiguration property in Step 16 to Internet Only and then you select the Do not customize Outlook profile and account information option in Step 14, the OutlookConfiguration property will be set to Ask user when Outlook first runs when you go back to Step 16.

MORE INFORMATION

The OutlookConfiguration property is linked directly to the settings made in Step 14 of the CIW. However, if you manually change the property in Step 16, the setting in Step 14 will not automatically revert to the change you specified in Step 16. This is to allow the user to have an option of what mode they will use when they first start Outlook.

For example, in Step 14 you can select the Corporate or Workgroup mode and you can preconfigure the Outlook settings for this mode. Then, you can change the OutlookConfiguration property in Step 16 to Ask user when Outlook first runs. In this configuration, the first time the user starts Outlook they will be prompted for the mode they want to use. If they choose Corporate or Workgroup, then the settings preconfigured by the admin in Step 14 of the CIW will be applied. If the user chooses Internet Only mode, then they will have to manually configure their Internet server settings.

NOTE: the OutlookConfiguration property is a private (mixed-case letters) Windows Installer property and cannot be set from either the Setup.ini or the command-line. You can only set this property in Step 16 of the CIW (or indirectly by selecting a mode in Step 14).
