SYMPTOMS

When you perform a Custom installation of Office, your previous version of Outlook is removed. This occurs even though you installed Office into a different folder from your previous Office version, and you selected Keep these programs.

CAUSE

Due to incompatibilities, Outlook 2000 cannot coexist with either Outlook 97 or Outlook 98. If you install Outlook 2000, any previous versions of Outlook will automatically be uninstalled.

MORE INFORMATION

When you perform a Custom installation of Office, the Microsoft Office 2000: Removing Previous Versions dialog box contains a check box that will allow you to keep your previous Office versions. This way, you will be able to run the Office 2000 programs and your previous Office version programs on the same computer.

If you attempt to install Outlook 2000 and you currently have Outlook 97 or 98 installed, the following text will be displayed below the Keep these programs check box:

You cannot install Outlook 2000 and keep a previous version of Outlook. If you choose to install Outlook 2000, your previous version of Outlook will be removed.
