Canceling Logon to DocObject Document On FTP Server May Still Open Document (230676)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 for Windows NT 4.0
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 for Windows 98
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 for Windows 95
- Microsoft Office 97 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q230676 SYMPTOMS
When opening a Microsoft Office 97 document from an FTP server, the user is prompted to log on. If the logon prompt is canceled, the document may still be opened.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because Microsoft Internet Explorer attempts to use an anonymous logon or a previously logged-on FTP session to the server if the logon prompt is canceled.
MORE INFORMATION
If the document is previously cached, canceling the logon prompt results in a "Cannot Display Page" error message instead of displaying the document.
