Links LS 99: Cannot Maintain Connection When You Play Multiplayer Game (230514)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to play Links LS 1999 Edition with other players, you may be repeatedly disconnected from the game.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if a U.S. Robotics modem is installed in your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, configure your modem to minimize data loss. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Modems.
  3. Click the modem you are using, and then click Properties.
  4. On the Connection tab, click Advanced.
  5. Under Use Flow Control, click Hardware.
  6. Click to select the Use Error Control and Compress Data check boxes.
  7. In the Extra Settings box, type the following line:

    S12=0 S0=4

  8. Click OK, click OK again, and then click Close.
