Links LS 99: Cannot Enable Chat with Yamaha OPL-3 Sound Card (230511)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to enable the Chat feature in Links LS 1999 Edition, you may receive the following error message:
The sound recording device is already in use by another application. Exit the application and try to audio chat again.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if a sound card based on the Yamaha OPL-3 chipset is installed in your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, update the driver for your sound card. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Links LS 99 Disc 1 into your CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key when you insert the CD-ROM to prevent Links LS 99 from starting automatically.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type the following line, and then click OK

    <cd-rom>:\Ats\Ats

    where <cd-rom> is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive.
  4. Press 6.
  5. Press 2.
  6. Click Next, click Next again, and then click Finish.
  7. When you are prompted to restart your computer, do so.
  8. When you are prompted for the location of the Yamaha OPL-3 drivers, type C:\Gorgor.
