This article was previously published under Q230445 SYMPTOMS
In a Gantt Chart view, drawing objects may not be displayed for a summary task.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when a drawing object is attached to a summary task and no bar styles are displayed for summary tasks. NOTE: For the methods described in the "Workaround" section to work, you must first display the Gantt bar for the summary task. Gantt bars are not drawn under any of the following conditions:
- The Hide task bar check box is selected in the Task Information dialog box.
- No Gantt bar styles are defined for summary tasks in the Bar Styles dialog box.
- In the Format Bar dialog box, the Summary bar is individually formatted to not be displayed.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, use any of the following methods.
Method 1: Format All Task Bars as White
You can format all summary bars as white to effectively hide them. To do this, follow these steps:
- Display the bar for the summary task, in order to display the drawing object.
- On the Format menu, click Bar Styles.
- Click to select the Summary bar appearance.
- Select a shape, a pattern, and the color white for the entire bar.
- Click OK.
Method 2: Format the Summary Task Bar as White
You can format the individual hidden summary bar as white to effectively hide it. To do this, follow these steps:
- Display the bar for the summary task, in order to display the drawing object.
- Select the summary task you want to hide.
- On the Format menu, click Bar.
- Select a shape, a pattern, and the color white for the entire bar.
- Click OK.
Method 3: Attach the Drawing Object to a Visible Task
Attach the drawing object to a different task that is not hidden. To do this, follow these steps:
- Display the bar for the summary task, in order to display the drawing object.
- Select the drawing object.
- On the Format menu, point to Drawing, and then click Properties.
- Click the Size & Position tab.
- Under Attach to task, in the ID box, type the number of a task that is not a summary task. Click OK.
