SUMMARY

This article describes how to install Internet Explorer without placing a Microsoft Outlook Express icon on the Desktop.

MORE INFORMATION

To install Internet Explorer without placing an Outlook Express icon on the Windows desktop, do not make Internet Explorer your default browser. To do this, use one of the following methods:

Internet Explorer Administration Kit

When you install Internet Explorer using the Internet Explorer Administration Kit, you have an option during stage 3 of the installation process to choose to make Internet Explorer your default browser. Choose the option that does not make Internet Explorer the default browser.

Internet Explorer CD-ROM

When you install Internet Explorer using a CD-ROM, type the following command on the Run line

pathsetup.exe /C:"ie5wzd /X:1"

where path is the location of the Setup.exe file on the CD-ROM.

If you do not have any browsers installed on your computer, Internet Explorer becomes the default browser.

If you do have another browser installed, you are prompted to make Internet Explorer your default browser when you start it. If you click Yes when you are prompted to make Internet Explorer your default browser, the Outlook Express icon is not added to the Windows desktop.
