PPT98: PowerPoint Quits When You Save As HTML (230371)

SYMPTOMS

When you click Save As HTML on the File menu, PowerPoint quits and returns to your desktop.

CAUSE

A slide in your presentation with one of the following layouts has a picture on top of (covering) the picture placeholder, and the picture was added to the slide using the Pictures From File option on the Insert menu:

Text and ClipArt
ClipArt and Text
Text and Object
Text and 2 objects
Object
Large Object
Object and Text

The Save as HTML feature in Microsoft PowerPoint is unable to interpret the different picture and placeholder layers on the slide.

WORKAROUND

Method 1: Allocate More Memory to the PowerPoint

Allocate more memory to PowerPoint before you try to save your file as HTML.

Method 2: Remove the Placeholders from the Slide

Remove the placeholder from the slide before you click Picture From File on the Insert menu.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
