OL98: (CW) Microsoft Fax Starts Automatically (230171)

NOTE: The procedures in this article only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. With this option, you can use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, click About Microsoft Outlook on the Help menu. If you have the Corporate or Workgroup installation, you see "Corporate or Workgroup".

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Fax may start when you start Microsoft Windows, even though Microsoft Fax is not in the startup group.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if McAfee WebscanX initializes the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) profile when you start Windows. Because Microsoft Fax is in the MAPI profile, it is also initialized.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, update your McAffee Anti-Virus software. Contact McAffee for information about updating your software.
