Error message: "Clip Gallery could not find the GIF graphic filter installed" (230162)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to insert a clip from the Microsoft Clip Gallery, you may receive the following error message:
The Clip Gallery could not find the GIF graphic filter installed. You can install graphics filters by running Setup for Microsoft applications again.

CAUSE

Publisher cannot insert the graphic image, because it cannot locate the correct registry entries for the GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) graphics import filter.

The exact cause of this problem is unknown.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
