How to Configure a Permanent IP Address for Network Devices (230150)

SUMMARY

This article describes how to reserve Internet Protocol (IP) addresses so that Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) does not assign the IP addresses to devices that require a permanent IP address.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it.
Certain network devices (such as network printers) require an IP address that does not change. To ensure that the Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP) service does not assign a conflicting IP address, edit the following registry value and change the data value to 192.168.0.200:

Hkey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ICSharing\Addressing\Settings\Stop

After you make this change, restart your computer. Then, set the network devices requiring a permanent IP address to an address between 192.168.0.201 and 192.168.0.253.

NOTE: Although altering the ICS setting described above is possible in the manner described in this article, Microsoft Product Support Services will not assist with customizing ICS IP settings beyond the default configuration.
