DriveSpace May Report Used Space and Free Space Incorrectly (229807)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft DriveSpace or Microsoft DriveSpace 3 tool to view the free space and used space of a hard disk that is 2 gigabytes (GB) or larger, the space may be reported incorrectly.

CAUSE

This problem is due to problems in DriveSpace or DriveSpace 3.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, view the free space and used space of your hard disks in Windows Explorer:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
  2. Click the hard disk you want to check, click File, and then click Properties.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
