Cannot Uninstall MSN 5.0 from Windows 98SE or Windows Millennium Edition (229258)

SYMPTOMS

When you open the Add/Remove Programs tool to remove MSN, The Microsoft Network, version 5.0 from your computer, MSN is not displayed on the Install/Uninstall tab even though MSN is installed.

CAUSE

This behavior is because MSN is a core component of the operating system and cannot be removed.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, you can disable MSN. To do this, right-click the MSN icon on the taskbar, click MSN Options, and then click Turn MSN Off.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Even if you disable MSN, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft Outlook Express continue to display the MSN logo in the upper-right corner.
